The School Day
In order to create a calm start to the day, the classroom doors are opened at 8.35 a.m. Registration is at 8.45 a.m., the register is taken promptly and all children are expected to be in the classroom by this time.
A typical day in the life of a Year R child…
This is only a guide to the activities your child will be doing, and their timings. Please do not see this as an exact timetable

Doors open Greeting and settling, sharing books and activities. |
8.45 a.m. | Doors close for registration |
8.50 – 10.25a.m. |
Class time, name games, getting to know one another, writing class stories and sharing big books. English, class split into 3 groups having 20 minutes working on phonics with the Teacher, 20 minutes on pre-writing and letter formation with the LSA and 20 minutes independent play in the Shared Area. |
10.25 – 10.40a.m. | Assembly or story and fruit time. (Fruit is provided by the school, however children may bring a small piece of fruit from home to school for morning break. This should be in a small container clearly marked with their name.) |
10.25 – 10.55a.m. | Play time |
10.55 – 11.55a.m. | Maths, class split into 3 groups having 20 minutes on number activities with the Teacher, 20 minutes , often outside, on practical maths with the LSA and 20 minutes independent play with a number theme in the Shared Area. |
12.00 – 1.10p.m. | Lunch time |
1.10p.m. | Registration |
1.15 – 2.40p.m. |
Quiet reading, reading with the Teacher or LSA, working on key words, sharing books and listening to stories. Either whole class activities, themed welly walk, schooters, bikes and outdoor play equipment or working in groups on art, drama or musical activities. |
2.40 – 2.50p.m. | Play time |
2.50 – 3.15p.m. | Story time |
3.15 p.m. | End of school day |
